Ladybugs in the garden
The girls finally noticed the ladybugs had arrived at Home Depot, so today we had our second annual garden ladybug release. I did a bit of research and followed some advice of commenters on my previous post by spraying the garden with sugar water to give them a little extra reason to stick around after being released.
The conditions today were perfect for the release, cool, overcast evening with some light rain. Would have been advisable to wait until the sun went down for better results, but kids would probably be upset if I released them without them and pictures are worth a few escapees.

That’s a new on on me – buying ladybirds (UK name). Our natural population fluctuates from year to year. We never know how numerous they will be, but we always get some.It must be annoying if they fly off into someone else’s garden despite you best efforts 🙂

Mainly do it for my girl’s entertainment few days of fun for a few bucks. I never really have ever had an aphid problem, maybe this is why 🙂 If a few fly to the neighbor’s yard and take care of their aphid infestations I look as it is a neighborly thing to do.

I like the idea of using sugar water. I’m waiting until it’s slightly cooler weather before I buy and release any lady bugs. Our population is very small this year.
